DCW POLICY

ITC WILL MAINTAIN AND IMPLEMENT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES THAT WILL ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING
ITC Overall Standards
The use of Principles of Caregiving curriculum and guidelines as found at www.azahcccs.gov/dcw 
Curriculum developed by ITC (pretest and quizzes) will adhere to the Principles of Caregiving. 
Trainer will update processes that ensure the curriculum is maintained and updated
Trainer will maintain and update curriculum as curriculum changes in accordance with AHCCCS  

TRAINER QUALIFICATIONS AND PROTOCOLS
Must be trained by a trainer with no connection to ITC
Must have 2 years of hands-on experience in direct care
Must have 2 years of experience in teaching groups of adults
Trainers must teach a  minimum of 2 classes per year
As of this time the utilization of experts or assistants will not be used

TRAINING ADMINISTRATION
Once an ITC DCW begins providing ATC services the qualified trainer will go over the Principles of Caregiving curriculum and timeline to ensure that training is completed within 90 days.
Trainer will direct the caregiver to ITC’s online training website specific for Principles of Caregiving at www.itcpofc.blogspot.com
ITC DCW will need to complete the trainings in the following order to ensure the DCW will be certified in a timely manner
Days 1-10: DCW must complete the presentations of Fundamentals chapters 1-5 and complete the quizzes for each chapter
Days 11-20: DCW must complete the presentations of Fundamentals chapters 6-10 and complete the quizzes for each chapter
Days 21-30: DCW will study the skills required for Fundamentals and practice them with ITC Trainer
Days 31-40:  DCW must complete the presentations of Developmental Disabilities chapters 1-4 and complete the quizzes for each chapter
Days 41-50: DCW must complete the presentations of Developmental Disabilities chapters 5-8 and complete the quizzes for each chapter
Days 51-60: DCW will study the skills required for Developmental Disabilities and practice them with ITC Trainer
Days 61-70: Written test will be administered and skills will be tested
Days 70-90: Re-testing for the written or skills test if needed
Family member providing Attendant Care services will only be required to complete Fundamentals to become certified
Training must be completed by all ITC DCW hired after October 1, 2012 and are providing Attendant Care Services
All ITC DCW’s hired before October 1,2012 are grandfathered in and are exempt from taking Principles of Caregiving
ITC DCW’s will not have the option of testing out (not taking the training) unless they have evidence of being a current Certified Nursing Assistant.

TEST ADMINISTRATION
Standardized tests must be utilized
After completion of all quizzes for Fundamentals the trainer will administer the written test giving the DCW 1 minute per question on the test to complete
After completion of all quizzes and the written test for Fundamentals the DCW will demonstrate all skills required for Fundamentals at %100
After completion of all quizzes for Developmental Disabilities the trainer will administer the written test giving the DCW 1 minute per question on the test to complete
After completion of all quizzes and the written test for Developmental Disabilities the DCW will demonstrate all skills required for Fundamentals at %100
If the DCW does not pass one of the written or skills test they will be given the opportunity to review their notes and documents and given the option to retake the test later that same day or on a future date as long as completed before 90 days before Attendant Care services began.
Test are locked up and shared with only those that taking the test
Accommodations (e.g. oral or alternate language tests) if needed will be made by the instructor
Trainer will outline the protocol for all testing

TEST VERIFICATION
Pass rate:  Written- Trainers (92%) and direct care workers (80%) Skills- 100%
Sharing test results: The form Verification of Direct Care Worker Testing must be used

RECORD MAINTENANCE
Documentation will be retained for six years
Trainer must keep the following documentation of Training and Testing Sessions
Class schedules
Class rosters for both knowledge and skills-based training and testing
Trainers, experts and assistants

TRAINER MUST KEEP THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION OF INDIVIDUAL RECORDS
Date of hire and date the training period concluded for employee
Training and Testing Modules
Accommodations (e.g. oral or alternate language tests)
